500 Festival Indy Mini

This was our first time running the Indy Mini. I say "our" because I was able to enjoy this experience with my friend Ashley. I joined her, for our first half (Purdue) in October 2013 and she joined me in Indy for our second and probably her last "long" distance.

I started Friday as normal, took Dewey to school, went back home and finished packing. My Aunt Karen was gracious enough to come spend some time with the boys so Declan could nap and then off to "Camp Diamond Lake" aka Gigi and Papa's.

We headed to Indy, found our hotel and checked-in. Then headed to pick up our packets and check out the expo. Everything seemed well marked and very organized. Picked up our number without any problem and shopped a bit. Aaron got a feel for what a hair show is since it was set up the same way. Rows and rows of vendors. Biggest one I have ever been to. I picked up a shirt and a few pairs of socks. Nothing to get to excited over.

We said our goodbyes to Ashley since she was staying with a friend and Aaron and I headed to dinner at one of our favorites,
Buca di Beppo. Luckily we made reservations, the restaurant was SO busy. People were "carb-ing up" for the big day.
Aaron and I really enjoyed just being together, being able to have a conversation and just enjoy each other.

Neither one of us slept really well. I could barely eat, nerves were in over-drive!
Ashley arrived right on time and we headed downtown to find some friends that were running also. We wanted to pray together and give words of encouragement.

And..... Here we go!

36,000 runners! We started in Corral U-Wave #4
We started off great. Entertainment, bands, music everywhere!  We were met at the Indianapolis Speedway by the IU Cheerleaders.
Of course we stopped at the bricks and gave them a big kiss.

Miles 10-13 were very tough for me. I got dizzy and Ashley said my face was white! We got fluid, walked a bit and after that we slowed way down and ran/walked until we could see the finish then  we ran to the finish.
Seventeen minutes slower than what we were expecting. But coming off a hard winter I did the best I could. I know I held Ashley back but we were hanging together till then end.

AND....WE MADE IT!

Made it church on Sunday. Quads are tight and sore.
So my little man helped a tired momma out.

Bless his heart, he doesn't know what he has started.

The training continues, local races here and there and then the "BIG 26.2" come November.
